How to pick a Participation Window?

How to pick a Participation Window?

This tutorial explains what to consider when selecting a participation window or deadline extension. Your company’s selected participation window impacts the expected score availability date, which may impact eligibility to be considered for The Sustainability Yearbook, or certain S&P ESG Indices.

CSA 2024 timeline overview

Starting in February, companies can reserve a 2-month participation window that best meets their own reporting cycle and project planning needs directly in the CSA portal, subject to quota availability. Book early to ensure that your company gets the most convenient window to complete the CSA. The 2024 CSA questionnaire opens for all companies on April 3rd, and is viewable from that date, independent of the chosen participation window start date. The questionnaire will only be accessible (for inputting your answers) as of the participation window you have selected.

To book a window simply log into the CSA portal and review the options available to your company under the “Manage Participation” tab.

Impact of submission date on eligibility for The Sustainability Yearbook

All companies participating in the CSA can be considered for inclusion in The Sustainability Yearbook 2025, provided they submit the 2024 CSA by the eligibility deadline explained below:

The latest participation window for companies to be considered for inclusion in The Sustainability Yearbook is August-September, with a latest submission date of October 11th (provided that a relevant deadline extension is available and booked by the company in time in the CSA portal).  The target date for the release of S&P Global CSA results for these companies is December 20th. The eligible universe of companies for potential selection to The Sustainability Yearbook 2025 is: all companies that have received an S&P Global CSA result by December 20th. The very final CSA results (to allow for including any corrected scores) used to determine a company’s inclusion in the Yearbook (and the related distinction level) is January 24th, 2025.  Any CSA results correction after January 24th, if applicable, will not be considered for initial Yearbook selection.

Companies that submit their 2024 CSA after October 11th, or that pick September-October or later as a participation window, will not be considered for The Sustainability Yearbook 2025.

Impact of CSA submission date on companies eligible for DJSI

CSA results calculated from the CSA are a key component for selecting companies into the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices and other S&P ESG indices. Please check which index, if any, your company is eligible for on the invited companies look up page. The decision to select companies into ESG indices is made by S&P Global Dow Jones Indices and follows the DJSI Methodology

Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) eligible companies

For companies that submit their 2024 CSA before August 31st the ESG Research team at S&P Global Sustainable1 will submit a CSA score based on the company’s active participation in the CSA to S&P Dow Jones Indices for the consideration of the company’s inclusion in any Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI)*. The latest Participation Window for companies to meet this deadline is July-August 2024.

For companies that submit their 2024 CSA after August 31st the ESG Research team at S&P Global Sustainable 1 will submit a CSA score based solely on the company’s publicly available information to S&P Dow Jones Indices for the consideration of the company’s inclusion in any Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI).

In both cases final CSA results will be provided to S&P Dow Jones Indices on Nov 15th

*S&P Global CSA Scores will be licensed to S&P Dow Jones Indices for use in the selection of eligible companies into any Dow Jones Sustainability Index. S&P Global is committed to the independence and objectivity of its products and services and has policies in place to help maintain an appropriate separation between the different business units, including S&P Dow Jones Indices and S&P Global Sustainable1 which develops S&P Global ESG Scores, a key component of which is the S&P Global CSA Score.
